FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

Your session is completely about you and your family. My job as your photographer is for us to get to know each other so you will feel comfortable and your personality will show in your photographs. One of my goals is to build a lasting relationship with all of my clients. The most beautiful, natural and memorable photographs are captured when the client trusts the photographer and is comfortable in front of the camera.

This is your session, not mine. If you have ideas, share them!  I am more than open to discussing any thoughts you may have.  After all, I am here to guide you through this journey. I can help you with wardrobe ideas and other details so your session can go smoothly. I’ll email you or call you a few days before your session as a reminder. In the end, the best photographs are the ones that others will say, “That is so you.”

HOW DO I SCHEDULE MY SESSION?

You can choose to have your portrait session take place in your home or at one of the beautiful parks or gardens in the area. I would be happy to provide recommendations. I do not have a studio at this time but that is one of my future goals.

Sessions times are based on your chosen package. Your time starts at your scheduled time and if you’re late this eats into that time. I may not be able to extend your session if I have back to back sessions scheduled for that day. So please, try to arrive at least 10 minutes early! Especially If you have kids. I try to be early to the location, but if I am late, it does not take away from your time.

WHAT TIME OF DAY DO I SCHEDULE MY SESSION?

Lighting is one of the most important factors in capturing beautiful photographs. I recommend times where the lighting will be the most flattering. Usually, the best time of day for photographs is early morning or in the evening. I like to schedule sessions an hour or so before sunset or in the morning before mid-day sun. If it’s cloudy, the light is more diffused and we can work with that type of lighting as well.

WHAT IF IT IS RAINY, WINDY, SNOWY, OR TOO HOT?

The Pacific Northwest is notorious for its crazy weather. One minute it’s sunny, and the next it’s raining. I constantly monitor the weather forecast and if the weather looks bad, I will contact you as early as possible so we can discuss a backup location if possible or reschedule your session.

WHAT IF I NEED TO RESCHEDULE?

Let’s face it, things happen. Just contact me as soon as you know you need to reschedule so that I can open that spot up for someone else. I only allow one rescheduling per session fee. When a reschedule happens, I’m usually unable to rebook that date on such short notice, so I try to keep them to a minimum. If I need to reschedule, I will contact you as soon as possible and the one time rescheduling does not apply to your session.

DO YOU OFFER HAIR AND MAKEUP?

At this time we do not offer these services with our packages.

CAN I BRING A FRIEND TO MY SESSION?

Yes! You can always bring a friend or two. We try and not have that big of a group because this can take away from our time together. If your best friend or boy/girlfriend is along, they can usually bring out the best smiles.

CAN I BRING MY MOM OR DAD TO MY SESSION?

Of course! We are always in need of assistants to help hold light stands, props, help with hair, etc. hehehe

I SAW YOU SHOOT A LOT OF IMAGES. WHY DON'T I GET ALL OF THEM?

I take multiple shots for a couple different reasons; blinking, moving children, and weird expressions are usually deleted. I also take multiple photographs of the same pose just in case I need to swap heads or people to create a perfect photograph of your family. Not all photographs live up to the quality I strive for and I choose the best ones of each pose to show your beautiful family.

DO YOU OFFER RETOUCHING?

Yes! We offer retouching services and restoration services. All photographs taken at Shaun Schlager photography are retouched. We like to provide the highest quality of photographs to you.

For a finished look, we retouch and enhance the images from your session. Having each image finished before you see it allows you to know exactly what you will be ordering.

Retouching includes skin softening and removal of blemishes and fine lines. There is no additional charge for this service. Artistic enhancement includes color and contrast adjustments as well as adding our own artistic interpretation to the images. If you have any photograph enhancements you would like to try, your ideas are always welcome.

CAN I POST IMAGES ON SOCIAL MEDIA SITES?

Yes! Any photographs used online will be copyrighted.  We will provide social media images that you can use, but you must keep my watermark on them. There is no alteration of my images. You cannot crop, apply filters, or edit the image in any way.

PROOFING AND ORDERING. HOW DOES IT WORK?

After I’ve finished editing your images, we’ll schedule another meeting. At this meeting you’ll get to see all the finished images and we’ll discuss your printing options. This could include print sizes, quantity, paper selection, etc.

CAN I MAKE MY OWN REPRINTS? WHO OWNS THE PHOTOGRAPHS?

As the photographer who took the photographs, I retain exclusive, full, and lifelong rights to those images. The photographs may not be sold, licensed to a third party or altered without written consent from me. I do extend a license to you (the client) to reproduce those images for personal use as an additional purchase to the session fee (either as a part of a product or collection, or “a la carte”), except where exception is given.

WHEN WILL OUR PHOTOGRAPHS BE READY?

Professionally printed and mounted prints are well worth the wait. Your order can take up to several weeks before you can expect to see them. We usually keep you up to date with a telephone call or email about your order status. You can expect your online gallery to be ready one week after your session. Your final order will be completed two to six weeks after the placement of your order, depending on the size and complexity.
